Chris Brown has been charged with felony battery after an alleged violent incident on Saturday night, Access Hollywood has learned.
Earlier on Sunday, the LAPD was investigating Brown for assault following an alleged domestic violence felony battery against a woman reported to be the singer's girlfriend, Rihanna , at 12:30 AM on Sunday in Los Angeles. Both Chris Brown and Rihanna pulled out of Sunday evening's Grammy Awards before the ceremony.
"At around 6:30 PM on February 8, 2009 R&B entertainer Chris Brown turned himself in to authorities at the Los Angeles Police Department's Wilshire Division," the LAPD said in a statement to Access. "Detectives investigating the alleged domestic violence felony battery booked him for criminal threats."
The guilty plea came before a preliminary hearing was scheduled to start. The hearing had been billed for weeks as a public face-off between the pair, with Rihanna set to testify against her one-time boyfriend.
Instead, Chris Brown averted the potentially damaging meeting by entering a plea that will subject him to probation for the next five years as well as force him to perform six months of community service.
